How we do it
Our approach for developing innovative artisan programmes is grounded in the deep insights we learn from hundreds of marginalized entrepreneurs across Africa and our face-to-face interaction with hundreds of artisans in their cities each year.
It is the collective voice of these entrepreneurs that directly shapes the models we build to support them. This approach gives us confidence that we can deliver what these entrepreneurs truly want and need.
The Afrikapu Process
Our artisans come from four different ethnic groups across Africa: They share their skills, culture and stories with us. We work with approximately 50(?) artisans across the continent.
We design limited-edition, ethically-made handicrafts, accessories and jewellery that reinterpret traditional artistry and preserves our artisans’ skills.
We work directly with our artisan groups to begin sampling our designs or launching a design collaboration. We work with our artisans who are eager to share their creative vision and find new ways to reinvent beautiful new variations on traditional themes.
Our products are created from recycled materials, and our packaging and operations are eco-friendly, making it an environmentally responsible enterprise.
We share the story of our artisans, independent designer collaborations and supporters’ stories via social media so everyone can share our story.
